Industry Showcase – Call for Proposals

We are eager to know if Emerging technologies be it AI, ML, AR, VR, or EDGE computing, how the UX teams are moulding their processes, changing their ways of working. This is an invite to all UX professionals and User researchers to share and present. Whether you work for a Consulting company or a studio or an IT product, each one of you has explored new tools, deviated from the ‘classic’ User-centred process, or just worked on a unique technology. There is a lot we all could learn from each other. India HCI invites proposals for presentations from working UX professionals. The showcase could include, either of the following:

A) Design for emerging Tech: Explain the specific approach of design for specific emerging technologies.

B) Project / Product Design case Study: A case study of a specific design project which employed innovative design methodology or project from an emerging technology domain.

C) Point of view presentation for an Industry Domain: For example, share your experience with Oil and Gas, or retail or healthcare, or any. Other industry verticals.

D) User research techniques: Any specific user research techniques you want to talk about, with hands-on project learnings.

E) Other possible topics: Comparison of tools of design, Design Process across different organizations,

Preparing and submitting a proposal

The proposals should be shared as a one-pager description of the topic you want to present.

Submission format:

A) Page 01 = About the presenter

  1. Name of presenter:

B) Page 02 = The One-pager proposal:

  1. Category: A, B, C, E, or E
  2. Topic Name:
  3. Topic description: Not more than 3 lines
  4. The rough structure of your presentation, or a rough Table of content
  5. The preferred format is (1) Pecha-Kucha or (2) Speaking slot. 

Review 

The One-pager will be reviewed by our panel and shortlisted entries will be requested to submit their final presentations in PPT format.

You could opt for either of the presentation formats: 

  1. Pecha-Kucha (20 x 20 format) 20 slides, and each slide advances automatically after 20 seconds.
  2. Elaborate Speaking slots, of 15 Min. including the Question and answers.

At the conference

Accepted presentation proposals will be invited to present during the online conference in 2 separate types of events

  1. Pecha-Kucha style quick and precise presentations.
  2. Present on a 15 Min Speaking slot.

Poster & Demos (Illustrative)

Call for Posters

Poster presentation sessions help researchers receive feedback on their work that has not yet been published. We invite poster submissions, which explore recently completed research works, strongly relevant results of work in progress, or successful systems and applications, in all areas related to HCI. The relevance of the research work to the HCI community, the rationale for the research work and its potential must be clearly described in the submission.

There will be online presentation tracks where authors can present a brief summary of their work to all conference attendees. For a poster to be presented, at least one author per accepted poster is required to register for the conference.

Call for Demos

The demo session of India HCI 2020 is a platform to present and share novel interactive technologies and experiences, with hands-on demonstrations to the participants. We invite demo submissions from academia, industry and all communities connected to HCI. Submissions are encouraged from any discipline related to HCI, games, interactive art/design and immersive media technologies. The interactive demo presentations are expected to provoke discussions on emerging technologies and research areas. The relevance of the demo project to the HCI community, the rationale for the demo presentation and the problems it attempts to address must be clearly outlined in the submission. Your submission should clearly describe the novelty and distinguishing characteristics of your work.

There will be online presentation tracks where authors can present a brief summary of their work to all conference attendees. For a demo to be presented, at least one author per accepted demo is required to register for the conference.

Submission Requirements

  1. Extended Abstract: The submission for poster or demo must be made as an anonymized 4-page short paper (including references) in the CHI Extended Abstracts Format, summarizing the research work. This document should be submitted as a single PDF and the file must be no larger than 10 MB in size.
  2. Explainer Video: Each poster or demo submission must be accompanied by a video, of length maximum of 5 minutes and size less than 90MB. The video must effectively communicate the research idea.

Authors should guarantee the anonymity of their submissions (please refer to the Review process below). Submissions not meeting the above-mentioned requirements will be automatically disqualified.
All Poster and Demo submissions must be made through the EasyChair portal.

Review Process

Submissions will be jury-reviewed. The review process will retain the anonymity of reviewers. Authors should guarantee the anonymity of their submissions (please remove names and affiliations from the document and any other material that would allow reviewers to identify the authors). Authors will be notified about the acceptance/non-acceptance on or before 15th of September 2020.

During the Conference

Only for accepted submissions 

Accepted posters and demos will be presented on an online platform. The specific presentation format of the accepted submissions will be updated on this page in due time. Videos of the accepted works may be displayed on websites featuring IndiaHCI2020 content.

StartUp Design Interventions

Call for Participation

IndiaHCI invites Startups and Designers to work together for a Co-creation workshop.

“Kick Start Design Journeys” we have devised a day-long Start-up Design workshop, where Designers get to work with selected Startups to explore what design can bring on the table for a startup.

Who should participate?

  1. Designers, who think they can make a solid contribution with their design and innovation methodologies, and tools towards a startup company.
  2. Design professionals, working anywhere, Any amount of experience.
  3. Design students: Studying UX / Product Design / INteraction Design / Visual Communication .

Startup entrepreneurs & teams:
Who think, Design could add value to their journeys of ‘Idea to successful Product.’

We are expecting early-level startups, who do not have design skills on their team. 

Selection Process

  1. Startups will be selected based on their initial inputs about their startup ideas.
  2. Designers would be selected based on their educational qualifications / Skill-sets and Linkedin profiles.

Depending on the number of registrations, we will make appropriate groups of one startup [1 to 5 (max) team members] and 2 Designers for the Co-creation workshop.

Tentative Outline of the Workshop

1.1. Inspiration (30 minutes)

Few Successful Startup entrepreneurs will share their stories on how ‘Design’ helped their startup grow and flourish, Or if the Design would have helped (10 minutes talks).

1.2 Learnings ( 30 minutes)

Veteran designers, who have worked for Startups would share their experiences, of what is needed in a startup, How a designer could contribute, What kind of design processes will work? etc. (10 minutes talks)

1.3 Workshop Methodology Introduction (30 minutes)

Workshop coordinator will explain the structured methodology of the collaborative workshop to all participants. Groups are announced.

1.4: Workshop: Working in separate groups ( 3 hours)

One startup (represented by 1-5 team members) and 1-2 designers, gets on individual virtual sessions and work together.

The team follows the structured methodology explained above and comes up with design intervention ideas at the end of the session.

The teams are supposed to generate a report in PPT format at the end of the session.

1.5 Summarise and present (30 minutes)

The select 5 teams will be presenting their Takeaways and design interventions and outputs to the whole group. in a 5 min presentation.

Two selected teams will present their output in the Conference Plenary.
