Call for Design Case Studies

A design case study is a description and experience of a particular design project. A case study could present findings from a user study, design alternatives generated during the process, the final design, results of a usability evaluation or a combination of these. A case study must capture the experience from the project in such a way that it is relevant to the others. Referencing prior work is still important, though less strict than in papers. Design case studies will be peer-reviewed on the basis of the quality and originality of outcomes, the experience they embody and usefulness to others.
We invite contributions relating to:

  • HCI in the industry of emerging economies
  • HCI contributions in social and economic development
  • HCI for products & services in emerging markets, including for mobile systems
  • HCI and designs for low-literacy users
  • HCI and designs for bottom-of-the-pyramid users
  • HCI for remote contexts (international outsourcing / global software development)
  • HCI responses to a world in recession

All submissions must be original and unpublished elsewhere and the authors should own copyright of all material that they present. A submission could be under review somewhere at the time of review of IHCI 2010, but if it was to be accepted in both places, the authors will need to decide which of the two events they would like to finally submit to. The design case study must be ‘blinded’ for the review process i.e. reference to authors or their organisation must be removed (though authors may refer to their own past work).

Format
Design case study descriptions should follow the ACM conference proceedings format. Templates to help you use this format are available from http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates.
Design case studies should be no longer than 6 pages following this format.

Submission Process
To submit a design case study, follow the following steps:

  • Create an account on www.easychair.org. (This itself is a 4-step process - a short form, email address verification, a longer form and login.)
  • Come back to this page and click here. Click on "New Submission" menu, select the appropriate track (India HCI 2010 Design Case Studies or IDID 2010 Design Case Studies) and fill in your design case study details.
Abstracts can be submitted till December 1, 2009 (midnight, India time) and design case studies must be submitted by December 15, 2009 (midnight, India time).
